Deutsch was born on 3 March 1930 in Nyriadony, in north-eastern Hungary.
Deutsch was a member of a group of Holocaust survivors known as the Boys, despite the fact the group consisted of over 200 girls.
The Boys were teenage and child-Holocaust survivors, who were brought to the UK after World War II for rest and rehabilitation.
Members of the Boys were held in Nazi labour and concentration camps and used as slave labourers, they had also survived World War II in hiding or as lone children.
The Jewish community in the town of Nyíradony, Hungary, was a small, tight-knit, and strictly Orthodox population.
Deutsch was born on 3 March 1930 to parents Zve Aryah and Maria in Nyriadony. He had four sisters named Aranka, Ella Iilona and Irene, and a brother named Bela.
The Nazis occupied Hungary in March 1944.
Slave Labour
Deutsch’s family were forcibly moved into the Nyiregyhaza Ghetto, also in north-eastern Hungary. From there, they were taken to the Simapuszta transit camp.
Deutsch was later deported to the Auschwitz II-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp.
On arrival in Auschwitz he was selected for slave labour. Deutsch was later taken to the München-Allach concentration camp, a subcamp of Dachau concentration camp in Germany.
