Heni Goldberg

The Central British Fund (CBF) put together a large team of people to look after the Boys.

The Boys were teenage and child-Holocaust survivors, who were brought to the UK after the war for rest and rehabilitation.

The British government offered 1,000 visas to bring the Boys to the UK but the caveat was that the CBF were responsible for their care and would pay all the expenses.

Goldberg was born in Breslau in Germany, now Wrocław in Poland. He arrived in Britain as a refugee from Nazi Germany.

His mother was murdered in the Auschwitz II-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp. He was an ardent Zionist and while working at the Loughton hostel he brought Moshe Shertok, later Foreign Minister of Israel, to speak to the Boys.

He left for Israel in 1948.
