Married Life - '45 Aid Society

From Survival to Partnership: Various members of the Boys built their lives together, marrying fellow members of the group.

The Boys were teenage and child-Holocaust survivors, who were brought to the UK after World War II for rest and rehabilitation.

Members of the Boys were held in Nazi labour and concentration camps and used as slave labourers, survived World War II in hiding or as lone children.

Some of the couples met immediately after the liberation while others met at hostels after arriving in the UK.

Salek Benedikt & Charlotte Singer

Both Benedikt and Singer arrived in the UK in the second group of the Boys. They were married in 1950.

Moniek Buki & Luisa Zisovic

Buki arrived in the UK in the first group of the Boys and Ziscovic in the fourth. The couple married in the USA.

Josef Grossman & Erika Vermes

Both Grossman and Vermes arrived in the UK in the fourth group of the Boys. The couple married in New York in 1954.

Chaim Korman & Ryfka Kuszerman

Both Korman and Kuzerman arrived in the UK in the first group of the Boys. They married in London in 1949 and settled in Canada.

Abraham Lipski & Blanche Korman

Lipski arrived in the UK in the second group of the Boys and Korman in the first. They married in London in 1948 and settled in Canada.

Benny Newton & Sala Hochspiegel

Sala Newton-Katz on the day of her wedding to Benny Newton.

The couple met in Theresienstadt after liberation and both arrived in the UK in the first group of the Boys. . They married in 1951 in Manchester.

Moshe Rosenberg & Stefa Manela

Rosenberg arrived in the UK in the first group of the Boys and Manela in the second. The couple met at Thaxted Farm and married in Israel.

Max Schindler & Rose Schwartz

Schindler arrived in the UK in the first group of the Boys and Schwartz in the fourth. The couple met at Bedford hostel. They married in 1950 in London.

Hirsch Vogelhut & Millie Schwach

They married and settled in Canada.

Mordechai Topel & Esther Koslowska

The couple both came to the UK in the second group of the Boys. They married in New Jersey in 1950.

Solomon Braunheim & Ruzena Abraham

The couple met at Montford Hall hostel. They had five sons.

Joine Tarko & Lola Goldhersz

They met in Luton and moved to the USA.
