The Windemere Boys

The first group of the Boys arrived in the UK from Prague in August 1945. They were cared for in the Windermere reception centre.

The Boys were teenage and child-Holocaust survivors, who were brought to the UK after World War II for rest and rehabilitation.

Members of the Boys were held in Nazi labour and concentration camps and used as slave labourers. They had also survived World War II in hiding or as lone children.

These profile pictures of the Boys in Windermere were taken by George Lauer. Lauer was a chemist from Prague, who had also been a prisoner in the Theresienstadt Ghetto. His wife Edith drew up the list of the children to be brought to the UK. To find out more about George Lauer click here.

Not all the Boys have yet been identified. If you recognise one of the Boys please get in contact.
